Macey McHenry—Glamorous society girl or spy-in-training?
W.W. Hale V—Heir to an American dynasty or master thief?
There are two sides to every coin. Whether these two can work together is a tossup.
Born into privilege, Macey and Hale are experts at mingling with the upper class. But even if they’ve never raised an eyebrow at the glitz, neither teenager has ever felt at home with the glamour.
When Macey and Hale meet at a society gala, the party takes a dangerous turn. Suddenly they’re at the center of a hostage situation, and it’s up to them to stop the thugs from becoming hostile. Will Macey’s spy skills and Hale’s con-man ways be enough to outsmart a ruthless gang? Or will they have to seek out the ultimate inside girl to help?
The worlds of Heist Society and the Gallagher Girls collide in Ally Carter’s fast-paced, high-stakes and tantalizing new story. Get a behind the scenes glimpse as Ally delivers an irresistible thriller that is full of her signature style and savvy twists.
I've read all of Ally Carter's YA novels, and they have exceeded my expectations immensely. Ally Carter has a way of telling a story simply, yet sophisticated, which makes her books absolutely lovely reads. Double-Crossed is no exception. This novella was an action packed adventure that made me want to never put this down until I finished it. It was only 60 pages, and I wanted it to be so much longer.
I love all the characters from both Heist Society and the Gallagher Girls series, and to see them interact was a huge and amazing bowl of awesome. Macey, Hale, and Kat all had great dynamics when they interacted with each other, and it made the story so much more enjoyable. But this story isn't just for fun. It further develops the plot in the Heist Society series, and sets up for some amazing things that could happen in Perfect Scoundrels.
My favorite thing about this novella was, wait for it... Hale and Kat shipping. Double-Crossed shows how much their relationship has developed from the first book, and sets up some interesting relationship-y things that could happen in Perfect Scoundrels. You can see how much they truly care about each other, whether it's the way Hale's face lights up whenever Kat talks, or how much Kat worries about Hale when he's inside the building. I just want to applaud Ally Carter for making all her romances in any of her books so amazingly beautiful and sweet and real.
Double-Crossed was an amazing read from start to finish, and for anyone who loves either Heist Society or the Gallagher Girls series, or just wants to try some of Ally Carter's writing, this short story is for you. Another great thing, is that it's FREE. It was action packed, mysterious, and so very intelligent, and I absolutely loved it.
It's definitely 5/5 stars.
